I was fortunate to participate in a scholarship program that flew me out to Chicago for a couple days before heading back to Shanghai to intern for the rest of my summer. One of my friends studying in Chicago was kind enough to pick me up from my hotel after church and take me to her favorite brunch spot in the downtown area.

As expected, the line for this place on a Sunday was crazy long so we grabbed a number and waited for a good thirty minutes before being called inside. Good thing the servers here are attentive and the food is served unbelievably fast.

My friend had her usual favorite, Chicken 'n' Waffles.

Golden waffles with batter that's  infused with bacon bits - now that's what we call true Southern comfort food. Boneless chicken fried until crisp smothered with their special sausage gravy with a side of maple syrup. No wonder it's a crowd favorite.

Next we had the Iron Man Omelette.

I'm not normally one to waste a brunch order on an omelette I can easily make at home, but this one exceeded my expectations. The egg white omelette came with a variety of veggies including mushrooms, tomatoes, onions and green peppers. Bonus points for the added  avocado that gave the omelette a thicker, creamier texture. The meal also came with a choice of side, either fruit or diced red potatoes and another side of either toast, english muffin or a stack of pancakes.

Overall, highlights of this restaurant include its hearty "all American" portions, quick service and food quality in general. I'm also diggin' their high ceilings and bright colors - really kicks off Sunday morning with some nice, quirky feeling vibes.
